curiosity and connectivity

“Curiosity about life in all of its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people” – Leo Burnett

so sometimes ya draw the guys on the airplane.....

some days it's a still life

sometimes photography

doesn't much matter, if you're curious and drawn to create that's what you do

it's what i do anyway- photos with the best available option, learning to draw and journal so i have another way to play- it's all about communication and expression. about examining the world/my perception; honoring and sharing the moment. figuring out what bird/plant/geo feature i'm looking at and passing it on.

curiosity and connectivity. creativity, curiosity and connectivity.

the role of art

Art is the method of levitation, in order to separate one's self from enslavement by the earth.
Anais Nin

There's nothing like drawing a thing to make you really see it.
Margaret Atwood

The function of the artist is to provide what life does not.
Tom Robbins

the art i've been making has been all about on the go drawing in journals for the past year and a half. that or photos. which are worthy pursuits, improving my skills and teaching me a lot but it has been a very long time since i've had a show- or even enough pieces (or time) to have a show.

i've been accumulating supplies and sketchbooks in my travels, and using same.

this serves well the 3 quotes above, but there is still a desire to put my work out in the world in a format besides social media. there's a quote i couldn't find about inspiration finding the prepared. i have been doing the work. i'm pushing myself, drawing regularly, learning (well, playing with) new media and doing things that scare me, like drawing people. it's time to do that other scary thing & have a show.

i'm not doing boise open studios this year, not in a gallery, pathetic at keeping my etsy shop up. i have some art at the BENCH salon & gifts but haven't been good about updating. we do a gypsy gallery show at cw moore plaza quarterly, but i haven't shown anything new there lately.

i love that i get to see so much amazing wildlife and enjoy taking photos of same. i have been working on a series of paintings from photos i've taken.

it's a totem series- i've written the animal's spiritual meaning in the background of the painting and layered on top of that. feels good to be painting and to have a series of paintings that are meaningful for me.

a big role of art in my life is to communicate. i find it amazing that i have artwork in people's homes in several states & countries. when i stop and think about that it seems incredible- and i love that whatever i think the piece symbolizes, it probably means something completely different to whoever lives with it, but know that something i created drew them in.

i have a group show coming up in november and an application in for a flash show at surel's place with the studio group. that would be fun, because i love the way that we all support each other and influence each other's work even though we work in different media and styles. studio sunday is a supportive and creatively fertile situation that i really value.

excited to see what comes. i am happy to have been working on my skill set, but it's time to send some things out into the world......
