happy new year!

happy new year everyone! we had friends over on new year's eve, ate jambalaya & hoppin john, had a cake with a coin in it- that was in my piece- yay!- drank champagne & laughed- a lovely way to ring in the new year.

hikes with dogs & friends friday and saturday morning, and lazing about yesterday, watched a bit of football & napped, mostly.

wanted to share the piece below- i had called it finished when it looked like it does on top. i usually put my art around the house to look at for a while before really calling things done, thanks to great advice from my art teached kathy. margie & i were drinking wine & talking and i noticed that there is a big spot to the right of the head toward the top that looked empty.

so, back to the studio (sorry for the color being off- top photo is a better representation). i added some more gessoed flowers, which gives the piece more layers and depth and added another small dragonfly. much better now, i think- what do you think?

for those of you who are wondering, my demo is on monday night, and i will report, hopefully i can get someone to take some photos.

also, on the juried show comment- the thing is that i like to create pieces specifically for a show, working hard to do my best. it's a way to challenge myself & i just don't feel like i've had the time to focus on something like that lately. maybe i will just look at some of the existing inventory & enter one, we'll see.

happy new year, and thanks for reading & for your comments- i really enjoy the conversation!

Oh yes, all the difference in the world in the bottom photo after the addition of the flowers/dragonfly. Brought the balance right up.
We are still eating gumbo!!! Wish I had a King Cake to go with it but I don't feel like baking one. Rather be in the studio!
