another meeting, another doodle

i was not as successful using doodling as a technique to keep my mouth shut this time..... and yes, it was a long (but hopefully fruitful) meeting. my husband thought that taking the markers & doodling with them might be a bit much- he's probably right- so black ink in my notebook it is!

tomorrow night we set up gypsy gallery. looking forward to that, and the show is always fun (that's on thursday). busy week!

mini art

i got some new magnets made last night- they're on 3x3 canvasses. these have been doing ok at the gallery & should be good stocking stuffers. i have first thursday and a gypsy gallery coming up this week.

hanging day at the gallery, where we swap out & move around art. here's part of my work ( not the photo of the door, though). it always amazes me when artists don't take out pieces that have been hanging for a while & haven't sold. i am always interested in trying something new. you can always put the others back in. oh well- hoping for good luck with these! i bet the dragonfly goes- they seem popular.

almost the end of art every day month. hopefully i will keep the doodle habit going- i think it's good to make myself do something arty and equally good to let it be a doodle or some sort of experiment- in other words, not be pressured to make a finished product. though i need 56 linear inches of new work before january 2 :)

breaking in my new studio :)

i love my new studio!

margie & nancy came over to help me break it in this afternoon. plenty of room for the 3 of us- maybe even one more- and a dog or two.

i've had these dolls on my dresser & decided the studio would be a better place for them to live. a studio should have art in it after all- someone else's is good too.

this is mine and i thought it was wonderful between the windows- then i realized i was 23 inches short on new art for the month & this is 24 in wide. so it will go in w/ a big price & i'll swap it out when i can.

play! real art instead of doodling!

the finished pieces for the evening:

november 26

started the day with a beautiful walk with the dogs. i love the big blue sky clean white snow & accents of naples yellow grass peeking out.

after running errands & a bit of r & r on the couch we settled in to watch the boise state game & i doodled. the doodle is happier than the game was, but at least it's college football, not world peace!

nancy is coming over this afternoon to help me break in the studio. i have a nice cold bottle of veuve in the fridge- might be the perfect thing to toast with!

art every day month- day 24

yesterday's doodle, done while watching movies with the hub. i should have made it snowy, like our weather has been :) these are giving me some ideas for future projects, which is great.

today will be turkey & friends & hopefully some studio time. will get that (studio time) for sure tomorrow & saturday.

happy thanksgiving to my american visitors! and to everyone- i am thankful for all of you who stop by & leave comments, ideas & encouragement.

art every day month- day 23

well, i've managed at least a doodle most days this month. did better last year, but it's been busy so i'll take it easy on myself. here's the daily doodle:

fay went home today, and it was back to work. hoping for studio time thursday and friday. sunday is hanging day & i need 16 more inches. i also sold a piece at the airport today (yay!) that needs to be replaced. and then there's gypsy gallery next thursday- no pressure! :) i can't wait to play in my beautiful new studio- and there are some pieces started that will help. hopefully progress on those tomorrow night.

thankful!

my good friend fay has been in town for a few days & it's been wonderful to spend time with her. when i was moving things out to the studio i found the parts of the piece below, which i meant to make as a gift for her a few years ago. i don't know what happened. but i finished it today. it is oil & copper leaf with a transfer. 4x4.

fay helped me organize the studio while she was here. she & carolyn both helped this afternoon. even after cocktails at lunch ( and a few more while working) it was lots quicker to have them help so i didn't overthink where everything should go. tools go with the tools, damnit!

my husband gave up awards points to get me the ipod speakers, so i'm all set on music- very important! carolyn donated the basket.

full studio tour to come.... i can't wait to play!

and the daily doodle- made while listening to three of my favorite storytellers tell stories.

what a lovely day!

balance

busy- day job, cleaning for my friend to come visit, need more gallery art, so we have another doodle- which seems to be about balance. fire & water. action & calm. tho actually the water looks pretty active too..... it just seems a cooler, more soothing concept...

but- i made art today! woo hoo!

a few of my favorite things

i've been looking at books & magazines & blogs about studios and set ups and small space storage and i've seen lots of wonderful photos of well loved & used work spaces. and i can't wait til mine is as broken in and- well- inhabited. in the meantime, it does house some of my favorite art things- in this case caulk, cheap metal & wooden brushes, an atc holder pam gave me for my birthday, holding cards made by friends, and scrapers & palette knives.

more to come!

and still more....

busy monday. studio at a temporary halt while some unforseen issues get taken care of- which is OK, b/c i should be cleaning anyway, but it reduces art making options since most stuff is out there. it may be doodles for a few days.

also had a meeting at the gallery tonight. they're only quarterly, so it isn't too bad, and it's good to have the membership involved- we are, after all, a coop & all owners. but meetings are just painful. they're necessary & sometimes even good, but still painful.

so i doodle. it seems more polite than playing angry birds on my phone. this is an old doodle in my meeting notebook-

and here's tonight's. the upper left hand corner isn't very successful, and the flowers are pretty basic, but i do kind of like the leaves in the right hand corner.

the other good thing about doodling is that it helps me keep my mouth shut. i can focus, shut up & draw. or scribble.

and now to bed- another busy day tomorrow!

another doodle

spent the day moving into the studio- things always take longer than you'd think- but i can see my dining room table again ( helpful with thanksgiving coming up) and my drawing table is empty too- all in good time. the studio is going to be great!

so, here's today's art- a martini doodle, it looks like :)

studio!

isn't it cute? we're getting closer ! i started moving things in today-

first my books- for some reason i was really excited about having them all out somewhere i could easily find & reference them. not that it was bad before- they were in the bookshelf in my office- but they weren't where i made art. they are now :)

a trip to big lots yielded plenty of storage options. i venture a guess there will be more once i start moving more stuff out & figure out what i need. i am so excited to be able to have everything out where i can see what i have! for instance, i know for sure i won't need to buy any spray var for a long long time :)

the easel's up, shelves are going up. lots of windows, but that's good.  there's still plenty of wall space for shelves. steve also made a window seat (lower left of pic) for storage, and i have space above. as well as under the tables. i think i'll be fine.

lots of windows, lots of outlets. i get to make a trip to best buy tomorrow to pick up another critical component- the bose ipod speakers. those capital one points came just in time, and my sweet husband is letting me use them for studio music.

i will move more in tomorrow- need to do some house cleaning too, since my good friend fay will be here next friday. and make art. hmmmm. i need another day this weekend!

photo opp

the dogs & i had a beautiful walk this morning- and the trails were pretty empty, too. lovely way to start the day!

got more work done on the studio- shelves bought & put together, started throwing things in boxes. with any luck at all, the last of the floor will be painted & the wiring done tomorrow, then i can start moving in! and making art again- it's almost that time of month to start thinking about what i'm going to swap out.... i am (not for the first- or, i'm sure the last time) wishing i could put photography in. but i can't. oh well!

happy friday!
